About Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a natural and scientific system of medicine that facilitates the bodies ability to heal itself. It has been around for over 200 years and is still evolving.
Balancing Well Being
It is based on the notion of “like cures like”. This means that a remedy that looks and acts like the symptoms expressed by the individual is the one that will allow the vital force or ‘chi’ to come back into balance. This re-balancing allows the whole individual to heal.
Individualized Treatments
A homeopathic consultation treats the entire person, mind, body and soul. All remedies are safe, non-toxic and have no side effects. It is so gentle it is safe for infants and pregnant women alike.
How Does It Compare to Other Treatments
Restoring Balance
Homeopathy understands that the symptoms we can see and feel are the result of many layers of experiences over a lifetime. By themselves, none of these may have created an illness, but they each create a slight imbalance that impairs the body’s ability to heal itself. Homeopathy heals by helping the body to restore balance at the root cause rather than just addressing symptoms.
Preventing Illness
Homeopathy is effective in preventing illness even before it can be detected by traditional medicine. Traditional medicine can’t help you unless you are ill. Homeopathy can. Even if you “just” feel physically or emotionally run down, homeopathy can provide remedies that will address underlying issues before they have a chance create disease in the body.
Environmentally Friendly
Unlike pharmaceuticals, homeopathy does not harm the patient or the environment. Homeopathic treatments do not accumulate toxins in the human body, nor do they pass out toxins into the environment when eliminated as waste as many traditional medicines such as antibiotics do. In addition, animal experimentation is not needed to produce homeopathic medicines.
Tailored and Gentle
Homeopathy recognizes that each individual is different – even if they have the same external symptoms. No two treatments are alike because no two individuals are alike. Homeopathic treatment is very safe, gentle and non-invasive and as such is well-tolerated by children, the elderly and others with more sensitive systems.
Compliments Other Treatments
Homeopathy need not be an either/or decision. With 20+ years as a nurse, I am well aware of the benefits of traditional medicine and my clients feel confident knowing that I can help them get the best of both worlds to speed their healing and optimize their health.
Cost Effective
While homeopathy may not be covered by some extended health benefit plans, it is far less expensive overall than other non-medical forms of alternative treatment. On average, clients will spend less than $100/month over the course of a year to restore and maintain optimum health.
What does a typical treatment look like
A consultation with a homeopath is quite different from seeing any other health care professional. The initial consultation lasts about 1.5 – 2 hours . We will begin by having a conversation so that I can learn and understand how you see and react to the world around you. After our consultation I will spend as much time as necessary analyzing your case and choosing an appropriate remedy for you and your symptoms. This might take from as little as a few hours to several days and a remedy is usually ready for you within 1 week.
A follow-up visit is made 2-3 weeks after you have taken the first remedy to evaluate how it is acting. 4- 6 weeks after that another consultation is requested to assess the effects of the remedy. As you begin to feel stronger the visits will become less frequent. The number of visits required depends on the complexity of your case. Typically, you will see me 3-4 times as described above, and subsequent follow-ups if necessary will range from 10-20 weeks.

Tina Spathis
Registered NurseThroughout my varied nursing career I have worked in multiple acute care hospitals within the city and abroad. Since 2007 I have been teaching with the Faculty of Nursing at UBC and have continued to build my knowledge base in the areas of orthopaedic, trauma, cardiology, respiratory and family medicine, and paediatrics, with extensive experience in adolescent care. I have been treating both chronic and acute cases since my graduation from the Vancouver Homeopathic Academy () in 2009 with a focus on treating families – children and parents alike.
I attended post-graduate studies in paediatric homeopathy with Dr. Sunil Anand. The highlight of my nursing career has been watching the way my knowledge of homeopathy supports the growth and evolution of those under my care.
I feel particularly blessed to have experienced the benefits of homeopathy for myself and my own family, but also to have had the opportunity to improve the health of my client’s families with these amazing tools. I was raised and educated in Vancouver where I am currently raising my two teenage children with the help of my very supportive husband. I also volunteer with Side by Side homeopathy, an organization which provides free homeopathic care to women in the downtown eastside.
